Kate Chastain on Why Vicki Gunvalson is “Overrated,” Spinoff

Below Deck alum Kate Chastain just doesn’t see the appeal in The Real Housewives of Orange County’s Vicki Gunvalson.

While promoting her new show, The Traitors, Kate was asked which Housewife she deemed the most overrated, and Kate wasted no time in calling out Vicki, explaining that “she doesn’t get” all the hype over the OG of the OC.

“I just feel like she’s always angry and always screaming,” Kate told Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast.

As a self-proclaimed “Bravo superfan,” Kate based much of her evaluation of Vicki on her stint on a fellow Peacock show, Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Ex-Wives Club.

During filming, Vicki was still processing the demise of her relationship with ex-fiancé, Steve Lodge, and she got into multiple nasty arguments with her castmates, including Brandi Glanville, who claimed she was a “b*tch” to work with during production of the show.

Vicki’s next venture will be appearing on the fourth season of RHUGT, which is currently filming in Marrakech, Morocco. Kate says she’s hopeful that Vicki can have a turnaround in her attitude.

“I mean, I’m happy for her that she’s now going to Marrakech for a redo because, you know, she was vulnerable at that time in Bluestone Manor,” Kate told the outlet. “So, hopefully after this new ‘Girls Trip,’ I will change my opinion.”

However, for now, Kate is reserving judgment, adding, “But as it stands, Vicki needs to change her vibe.”

Kate’s Traitors costar, Shah’s of Sunset’s Reza Farahan, recently found himself in a feud with Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Kyle Richards after he asserted to Andy Cohen that Kyle was the “most overrated” Housewife during a Watch What Happens Live appearance.

Kate says she saw “the whole [feud] go down” online and found it “hilarious.”

“When I saw Kyle clapped back, I was like, ‘She watches “Traitors”?’ So, thank you for that, Kyle Richards. And I thought [Reza’s] clap-back was … great. I was so happy for him,” Kate said.

In other news, Kate also took the time to reveal that she and Brandi Glanville sparked a new friendship while filming The Traitors, and she confessed they almost filmed a reality show together.

“I would be lying if I said some [NBCUniversal] executives didn’t already throw that out across the table,” the former chief stew told the podcast.

However, due to Kate becoming pregnant with her first child, the idea was scrapped. Don’t count them out just yet, though. Kate still has hope that the idea will come to fruition in the future.

“I would be shocked if at some stage down the road, there wasn’t some kind of Brandi and Kate reunion with a camera involved,” she teased.

Kate went on to say that her newfound friendship with Brandi was her “greatest gift from [The Traitors]” and that the two “text every day.”

“If I read off the texts that I get from Brandi, they would go viral. She is the funniest human I’ve ever met,” Kate explained. “She’s also so intelligent and so kind.”

Though Kate may not be the biggest fan of Vicki, she’s rooting for Brandi, who is also appearing in the fourth season of RHUGT.

“Brandi Glanville deserves a win. She has dealt with so much on every show,” Kate concluded. “She deserves her due flowers, totally.”
