A winter storm will bring snow to the metro area, including up to a possible 8 inches in Denver where the high temperature will top out in the teens on Wednesday.
A winter weather advisory is posted for the metro area starting at 12 a.m. Wednesday through 12 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The metro area, including Denver, Boulder, western Adams and Arapahoe counties, will see snow accumulation between 4 and 8 inches by Wednesday night, with higher amounts south, east and west of Denver.
There is a winter storm warning posted for the Eastern Plains and along the Front Range south of Denver, including Jefferson and Douglas counties.
Commuters on Wednesday, both morning and afternoon, should be prepared for winter driving conditions.
“Snow-covered roads will make travel hazardous,” the weather service said. “Plan on slippery road conditions.”
The southern Front Range foothills and Palmer Divide area will see heavy snow, the weather service said. Roadways will become icy and snow packed, especially along and south of Interstate 70.
Castle Rock is expected to receive between 5 to 11 inches of snow and Monument Hill 6 to 12 inches.
In northeast and north central Colorado, snow is expected for much of the day Wednesday. Winds will gust to 50 mph in some areas, creating blowing and drifting snow, making travel difficult, especially south and east of Denver.

In Denver, snow is expected to start falling on Tuesday night, with a 90% chance for precipitation and wind gusts up to 22 mph, according to the weather service forecast. New snow accumulation on Tuesday night from 2 to 4 inches is possible. The low temperature will be about 15 degrees.
The daytime temperature in Denver on Wednesday will be steady and cold, with a high near 17 degrees, the weather service said. The snow accumulation will be between 1 to 3 inches, there’s an 80% chance for precipitation and winds will gust up to 22 mph.
On Wednesday night, there’s a 20% chance for snow before 11 p.m., as the overnight low drops to about 9 degrees. Winds will gust to 18 mph and the wind chill value will be near zero degrees.
The storm system is expected to move on quickly, metro area skies will sunny on Thursday with a high temperature in Denver near 36 degrees, according to the weather service forecast. Overnight Thursday skies will be mostly clear and the low will be near 14 degrees.
Friday in Denver skies will be sunny and the high temperature will be about 52 degrees.
