Savannah Chrisley isn’t happy with the “inhumane” conditions her mom, Julie Chrisley, 50, has been met with amid her seven-year prison term at the Federal Medical Center Lexington in Kentucky.
During recent episodes of her podcast, Unlocked With Savannah Chrisley, the 25-year-old Chrisley Knows Best star claimed the facility has no heating or air and accused the staff of treating their service dogs better than their inmates before teasing her family’s potential return to reality television.
“My mom’s in a facility that has no air, but yet there are service dogs for the prison that are in a heated and cooled building because it’s inhumane for them not to have air,” Savannah told guest Britney Ruby Miller, via Radar Online. “I read an executive order that Biden signed that said all federal inmates must be housed in environmentally-friendly facilities and I’m like, ‘OK, well, this is completely opposite of that.’”
But in response to Savannah’s claims, the Federal Bureau of Prisons assured Radar Online that the conditions for Julie and other inmates were “appropriate.”
“For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not release information on the conditions of confinement for any inmate or group of inmates,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “However, we can share, the Bureau of Prisons’ institutions are accredited by the American Correctional Association. ACA Standards cover environmental conditions, including temperature and air quality… [and] discusses temperatures in indoor living and work areas appropriate for summer and winter.”
According to Savannah, seeing her parents behind bars has been understandably strange, and particularly “weird” due to dad Todd Chrisley‘s gray hair.
“It’s really weird seeing him with gray hair. Like, really weird,” she told Britney. “He’s definitely used some color over the years, and now seeing him with gray hair, I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is really weird.’”
As fans of the Chrisley family may know, Julie and Todd, 53, entered prison on January 17 to begin their combined 19-year prison sentences, 12 years of which belong to Todd, who is currently incarcerated at FPC Pensacola in Florida.
During another episode of Unlocked With Savannah Chrisley, as she chatted with 10-year-old niece Chloe Chrisley and grandmother Nanny Faye, 78, Savannah told listeners they will soon be seeing their family’s “new normal” firsthand and confirmed she’s been “talking to a few production companies” about a new show.
“We’re going to touch on where we’re at today, Mom and Dad being gone, how we’re coping with it, how we get through it,” she revealed, via Page Six. “Also too, having two kids and all of us stepping in to make sure that they have what they need emotionally, psychologically, physically, all the things, I feel like there’s a level of humor to it as well.”
Savannah, who was granted custody of Chloe and brother Grayson Chrisley, 16, said that when it comes to her potential new series, the episodes “will be heartwarming.”
“It’ll break your heart,” she shared, adding that fans will also “laugh.”
“I’m ready to walk down that highway any day … I’m ready,” Nanny Faye shared. “We’ll say ‘Well look at these Bounce Back Chrisleys.’”
Following Julie and Todd’s sentencing last year, NBC Universal canceled Chrisley Knows Best and its spinoff, Growing Up Chrisley. However, USA Network is airing a shortened version of its 10th and final season in 2023.
